Spring Racing Carnival

Farewell to the winter and welcome spring with open arms. It’s a time when the city comes alive. Anticipation and excitement fill the air for the Spring Racing Carnival. the Spring Racing Carnival is the ultimate racing period for Group 1 thoroughbred racing in Australia.

October 15th – Caulfield:

The Caulfield Cup is one of Australia’s richest purebred horse races held under handicap conditions, and run over 2,400 metres at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne.

October 21st – Moonee Valley:

The Moonee Valley Cup is a Group 2 set weight and penalties event that takes place at Moonee Valley racecourse in October during the Melbourne spring racing carnival. The race is run over a distance of 2500 metres and worth $250,000 in prize.

October 22nd – Moonee Valley – Cox Plate:

The W.S.Cox Plate is a Moonee Valley Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for horses aged three years old and over under Weight for age conditions, over a distance of 2040 metres, held at Moonee Valley Racecourse in Melbourne.

October 29th – Flemington – Victoria Derby:

The Victoria Derby is a big day for racing purists — there’s big money to be won and the class is superior. It is a Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds held under Set Weights conditions over a distance of 2,500 metres at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.

November 1st – Flemington – Melbourne Cup:

The Melbourne Cup is the race that stops the nation! It’s Australia’s major Thoroughbred horse race, a 3,200 metre race held on the first Tuesday of November. Many international trainers, owners and jockeys target this race.

November 3rd – Flemington – Crown Oaks:

The Oaks Day, popularly known as Ladies Day, is held on the first Thursday directly after the Melbourne Cup in November. Three-year-old fillies run a 2,500 metre track at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.
